Description

Responsibilities of the Town Assessor:

The Assessor collects parcel inventories to aid in valuation and determine full market value of all parcels within the town, prepares an annual assessment roll and administers exemptions (read for further exemption information).

 

Key Dates for Assessment

Valuation Date:  July 1st of the previous assessment year (the date the assessor must consider when valuation for the Tentative Roll)

Taxable Status Date:  March 1st (the deadline for exemptions, and assessment of current condition and ownership)

Tentative Roll:  May 1st Tentative Roll (the date tentative assessments are made public each year)

Grievance Day:  1st Monday in June for the Town of Hadley (last day to file a grievance if you disagree with our assessment)

Final Roll:  July 1st (final assessments are made available to the public on this date each year)

Regretfully, an address change request MUST be made by form, with a legible copy of a photo identification from the owner requesting the change.  We found this necessary as an added layer of protection to ensure we are dealing with the property owner.  You can also remove the name due to a death or add a now knows as or formerly known as designation due to marriage or divorce.

Please Note:  This will change or remove a name for tax billing and assessment roll purposes only.  A deed is a legal document and will not be affected by these forms.  You can find the pdf form posted at the bottom of this page.

 

EXEMPTIONS:

The deadline for exemptions and renewals is March 1st. 

Some of the exemptions that may be available to you are:

  • Veterans (war time)
  • Veteran (cold war)
  • Senior Citizen Limited Income
  • Enhanced STAR (for existing STAR recipients turning 65)
  • Agricultural Exemptions
  • Non-Profit
  • New homeowners or existing homeowners wishing to apply for, or switch to, the STAR Credit Check may do so by calling 518-457-2036 weekdays between 8:30am - 4:30pm or by applying online at www.tax.ny.gov/star
  • Clergy

The Town Assessor's Office prefers to give you the appropriate form for the exemption you are applying for.  This helps to ensure the property owner has the correct form and the information regarding required attachments, so your application is successful.  If you have any questions, please contact the Town Assessor's Office.
